Jeff Klaves will be entering his first year as the Bucs’ graduate assistant for the cross country and track and field programs.

Prior to arriving in Johnson City, Klaves spent the 2010-11 season starting the men’s and women’s track program at Hobbton High School in Newton Grove, N.C. During the inaugural season, Klaves led the Wildcats to the state championships, while producing their first top-four finish in the 200m.

During his time as a scholar-athlete at Campbell, Klaves was an NCAA Academic All-American and a two-time All-Atlantic Sun performer in track and field. Currently, Klaves ranks in Campbell’s top-10 fastest times in the 800m (indoor/outdoor), mile and 3000m.

Klaves graduated from Campbell with a B.S. in Mathematics in 2010 before coming a high school math teacher and head coach at Hobbton.

“Jeff was a very gutsy runner at Campbell, and he has the same mentality I look for in my elite athletes,” said Walker. “He will be able to relate well to our distance runners, and will provide great leadership to our cross country and distance programs.”
