TEGA CAY, S.C. (March 18, 2007) - Despite improving on its first round score by eight strokes and enjoying its best team finish of the spring season, the ETSU women's golf team was unable to best Winthrop Sunday during the final round of the Fifth Annual Shamrock Intercollegiate at the Tega Cay Golf Club.

Winthrop - which posted a final round score of 312 - finished at 642 for the event and captured the team championship. Meanwhile, the Lady Bucs posted a 318 on the final day to post a 644 for the tournament and place second on the team leaderboard. Individually, ETSU was led by sophomore Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales), who posted her career best finish with a tie for second, finishing three strokes back of individual champion Jutta Degerman of Winthrop.

"Lucy played great all weekend, but we also had two other players finish in the Top 10," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds. "This was the type of team effort we enjoyed throughout the fall season and it was good to see it this spring. Having a finish like this and being in contention is exactly what we needed as a team."

Along with Gould, junior Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) and freshman Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) were the other ETSU players to post Top 10 finishes, with Ringdahl ending the event in sixth place and Jansone tying for ninth. Meanwhile, junior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) and freshman Sarah Jane Sinard (White Pine, Tenn.) placed tied for 25th and 34th, respectively.

The Lady Bucs were 15 strokes better than third place Elon, with Charleston Southern fourth and Gardner-Webb fifth.

ETSU will return to action March 26 in the UNCW Lady Seahawk Intercollegiate. For more on Lady Bucs' women's golf, visit ETSUBucs.com.
