SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 18, 2006) - Coming off a victory in its first event of the year last week at the Draper Valley Invitational, the ETSU women's golf team had hoped to keep up its solid work Monday in the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup at the Cardinal Club Golf Course just outside of Louisville, Ky.

However, the first and second rounds did not go as planned, as the Bucs fired a team score of 621 and currently stand ninth on the 13-team leaderboard. ETSU is currently 34 strokes off the pace set by Louisville, the tournament's host school.

On the individual leaderboard, junior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) and freshman Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) are currently tied for 21st at 9-over, while Louisville's Jenny Calkins made it a sweep for the Cardinal on the first day, taking the top spot with a 1-under-par score. Calkins leads by one over Emilie Geury of Augusta State.

Along with Giraldo and Jansone, sophomore Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales) tied for 26th and junior Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) tied for 47th.  Freshman Sarah Jane Sinard (White Pine, Tenn.) withdrew after one round, leaving the team with just four players to post four scores, while fellow freshman Kennie Leigh Eisenhower (Newport, Tenn.) competed individually and finished tied for 39th.

The Bucs will continue with final round play at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup on Tuesday. Fans can keep up with the team by visiting ETSUBucs.com at the completion of the day's play, or by clicking on Golfstat.com for live scoring.
