GREENVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 21, 2008) - Plagued by inconsistency throughout the event, the ETSU women's golf team ultimately finished ninth on the team leaderboard following Tuesday's third round and final round of play in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina University at the Greenville Country Club.

"We are just extremely inconsistent right now, and as a team you can't do that and expect to compete at tournaments like this," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "We have to have two players step up and be leaders every tournament. We need players that can consistently put up good numbers each round. We haven't established who those people will be so far this season."

The Bucs, who were 45 strokes off the pace of tournament team champion Georgia State, looked on as the Panthers won by a comfortable 17 strokes over second place host East Carolina. Individually, Georgia State's Iliska Verwey won the title by one stroke over Florida International's Belen Buendia.

As for ETSU, the Bucs did not have a player finish better than a tie for 40th, with junior Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) and freshman Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) putting up those numbers. Vizcarrondo enjoyed the best round of the day for ETSU, finishing at 3-over 74.

The Bucs will return to action in their final event of the fall season Oct. 27 in the Edwin Watts-Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. For more on ETSU women's golf throughout the 2008-09, visit ETSUBucs.com.
