Jansone tied for 20th on individual leaderboard

GREENVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 19, 2008) - Returning from a recent appearance in the World Amateur, ETSU junior Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) fired a team-best 77 in the first round of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina Sunday at the Greenville Country Club.

Jansone's efforts helped the Buccaneers to a tie for eighth on the leaderboard, as ETSU will enter the second round 15 strokes off the pace of team leader Georgia State, which posted a team score of 299 on Sunday. The Panthers currently lead second place East Carolina by four strokes.

Individually, Belen Buendis of Florida International leads the individual competition by one stroke over East Carolina's Abby Bools. Buendis posted a 1-over 72 on Sunday, and Jansone is tied for 20th and six strokes back of Buendis.

Along with Jansone, other ETSU results included a tie for 31st by both junior Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) and freshman Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain). Senior Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales) is tied for 55th.

Second round action will resume on Monday, with live stats and results available at Golfstat.com, and a complete wrap up of the day's events at ETSUBucs.com.
