BLANCO, Texas (Feb. 18, 2013) – The ETSU women’s golf team finished with a flurry during third and final round play in the Jim West Challenge, posting the low team score of the day Monday  at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club.

Junior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) led the way with the low individual round of the day thanks to a 3-over-par 75 and finished tied for 10th, while sophomore Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) posted the Buccaneers’ top individual showing of the tournament with a fifth-place effort.

As a team, the Bucs – who shot 308 on the day – ended the event at 949 and finished second behind 39th-ranked Texas State, which hosted the tournament and fired a 309 Monday afternoon.

“Our team showed its fight and willingness to battle until the last stroke by posting the low round of the day,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “Again, we fought some of the toughest conditions we could have had at this tournament, and we still came away showing that same potential that helped us succeed in the fall.”

Wahl finished just five strokes off the pace of individual champion Iman Nordin of Texas State, who is ranked 89th nationally and enjoyed the advantage of playing on her team’s home course.

As for the rest of the Bucs, freshman Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Saba Malaysia) fired a 5-over-par 76 on Monday to post the second-best effort for ETSU on the day. Chin ended the tournament tied for 20th, while senior Chloe Garner (Somerset West, South Africa) posted a tie for 26th individually.

The Bucs will return to action on Monday, Feb. 25 at the Sir Pizza Cards Challenge. For more on ETSU women’s golf throughout the spring season, visit and click on the women’s golf link.
