OXFORD, Miss. (April 5, 2015) – With the Southern Conference Championships just a week away, the ETSU women’s golf team got a nice confidence boost on the final day of action in the Rebel Intercollegiate at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
Firing their best team score of the tournament during Sunday’s third and final round, the Buccaneers moved up one more spot to finish eighth in the 18-team field. Redshirt freshman Dominika Czudkova (Cesky Tesin, Czech Republic) led the ETSU efforts on the day, posting a team-best score of even-par 72 to finish the event tied for 25th individually.
Along with Czudkova, sophomore Linda Dobele (Ogre, Latvia) and junior Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia) both carded solid rounds of 1-over-par 73 and tied for a team-best showing of 18th on the individual leaderboard.
“This was definitely the best performance this team has had all year,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton, whose team will play in the Southern Conference Championships beginning April 12 at the Savannah Qaurters Golf Club in Pooler, Ga. “We have been patient and knew that it would take time to apply all the lessons learned this year and it happened this weekend. They approached every challenge that came their way as an opportunity to win this weekend and they did that from day one.
“This team believes it can accomplish great things now and what a great place to be as we head to the conference championships next weekend.”
Other ETSU results on the day included a 4-over-par 76 from sophomore Rachel Pollock (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) and a 5-over 77 from freshman Allyson Dunn (Kingsport).
No. 19 Texas A&M took home the team title by three strokes over No. 18 Kent State, as the Aggies finished at 858 for the event. While Kent State missed out on the team trophy, the Golden Flashes’ Josee Doyon did take home the individual medalist honors, besting Texas A&M’s Marijosse Navaro by five strokes with a score of 8-under-par 208.
The ETSU women’s golf team will return to action on April 12-14 in the Southern Conference Championships, which will be played at the Savannah Quarters Golf Club in Pooler, Ga. For more on ETSU women’s golf throughout the 2015 spring season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women’s golf link.
