LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 27, 2019) – Junior Tereza Melecka (Belcovice, Czech Republic) led the ETSU women’s golf team in the opening round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, which got underway Sunday afternoon at the Boulder Creek Golf Club
Melecka, who has three top-25 finishes this fall season, fired a 1-under-par 71 and sits tied for third following day one of competition. The Buccaneer junior carded three birdies, 13 pars and two bogeys on Sunday to put herself near the top of the leaderboard. Melecka is just two shots off the lead and was only one of four golfers to post a score below par in the opening round.
Elina Saksa of UNLV holds the 18-hole lead at 3-under-par 69, while Fresno State’s Brigitte Thibault is in second-place at 2-under-par 70. Melecka is tied for third with South Dakota State’s Teresa Toscano, while a pair of golfers are tied for fifth at even-par 72.
San Francisco sits atop the team leaderboard at 8-over-par 296, while South Dakota State is one shot back in second and host UNLV along with Long Beach State are tied for third at 13-over-par 301.
The Bucs are tied for 14th with Wyoming with scores of 313.
Redshirt sophomore Warda Amira Rawof (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is tied for 33rd (+5) and junior Kornbongkoat Sararat (Nongkhai, Thailand) is tied for 49th (+7).
Monday’s second round begins at 11 a.m. ET. ETSU will be paired with Wyoming and Portland State.
