GREENSBORO, Ga. (Feb. 21, 2020) – Red-shirt sophomore Warda Amira Rawof (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) led the ETSU women’s golf team in the opening round of the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational on Friday from The Landing Course.
Rawof, who is tied for 14th in the 78-player field, carded a 3-over-par 75 in the first round of the Bucs’ spring season. The Buccaneer red-shirt sophomore carded one birdie, 14 pars, two bogeys and a double-bogey in the opener. Rawof’s birdie came on the par-5, No. 2, moving her back to even-par thru six holes of play.
Tereza Melecka (Belcovice, Czech Republic) is three shots back of Rawof in a tie for 34th at 6-over-par 78, while Ankita Kedlaya (Bangalore, India) – playing as an individual – is tied for 47th at 9-over-par 81. After playing nine-hole stretch at 1-under-par, Melecka – the 50th ranked amateur in the world – finished her final four holes at 3-over-par.
Mercer and No. 22 Auburn are tied atop the team leaderboard at 5-over-par 293, while UNCW’s Thao My Nguyen holds the 18-hole individual lead at 3-under-par 69. A group of four golfers are tied for second at 1-under-par 71.
As a team, the Bucs are in 12th-place at 323.
Second round play gets underway Saturday morning with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.
