MACON, Ga. (Nov. 10, 2020) – Senior Tereza Melecka (Belcovice, Czech Republic) posted a top-10 finish, while the ETSU women’s golf team placed fifth overall as the final round of the Mercer Invitational concluded on Tuesday afternoon from the Brickyard Golf Club.
Melecka led the Blue and Gold in their final fall tournament of the season as the Buccaneer senior finished tied for seventh at 5-over-par 221 (74-72-75). Melecka carded one birdie, 13 pars and four bogeys on her final round scorecard en route to registering the 3-over-par 75. For the tournament, the Buccaneer leader dominated the par-5s, as her 4.75 scoring average was tied for the second-best mark in the field. Overall, Melecka carded 37 pars and six birdies in the two-day, 54-hole tournament.
As a team, the Bucs placed fifth in the nine-team field at 47-over-par 911 (305-296-310), while host Mercer claimed the team title at 19-over-par 883 (294-303-286). Chattanooga (+23), Western Kentucky (+29) and Troy (+38) rounded out the top-four.
Georgia Southern’s Ella Ofstedahl held off Mercer’s Lauren Lightfritz to earn medalist honors. Ofstedahl went low on Tuesday by posting a 2-under 70, edging Lightfritz by one shot with a 54-hole score of 1-under-par 215. Lightfritz, who shot a 1-under 71 in the final round, finished the tournament at even-par 216, while Chattanooga’s Esme Hamilton placed third at 1-over-par 217.
ETSU freshman Elle Willis, playing as an individual, finished tied for 25th at 14-over-par 230, while freshman Grace Chin and senior Warda Amira Rawof both tied for 31st at 17-over-par 233.
Tuesday marked the final fall tournament for the Blue and Gold who began their shortened season two weeks ago by sweeping the titles at the Terrier Intercollegiate.
