WALLACE, N.C. (March 8, 2021) – With four players in the top-20, the ETSU women’s golf team holds the lead at the River Landing Classic as second round play was suspended on Monday from the Landing Course in Wallace, N.C.

Monday’s opening round was delayed due to frosty conditions on the course; however, once play began the Bucs heated up near the end of round one and into round two. ETSU, who was in sixth-place at 3-over 291 at the end of round one, started the second round at 8-under to move into first-place before play was suspended due to darkness. The Bucs are 5-under thru at least 11 holes in second round play and hold a one-stroke lead over East Carolina and tournament host UNCW.

Individually, Tereza Melecka (Belcovice, Czech Republic) had a strong finish in the opening round en route to posting a 1-under 71. The Buccaneer senior leader carded three birdies over her final five holes in round one, while she’s been flawless in round two. Melecka, the reigning champion, is currently at 5-under thru 12 holes as she started with a birdie on the par-3, 153-yard No. 8, and then enjoyed back-to-back birdies on No. 13 & 14 and No. 17 & 18.

Melecka will enter the final day in third-place at 6-under, while leader Mallory Fobes of UNCW is at 8-under and East Carolina’s Julie Boysen Hillestad is in second at 7-under.

A pair of Bucs, Warda Amira Rawof and Blanca Porta, are tied for 12th at even-par. Warda finished the opening round with an even-par 72, and is even thru 11 holes in round two after registering two birdies, two bogeys and seven pars. Meanwhile, Porta posted a 1-over 73 in the opener before sitting 1-under thru 12 holes when play was suspended. Fellow grad transfer Julia Goodson is tied for 16th at 1-over-par thanks to shooting 2-under thru 12 in  the second round.  Following a bogey on her first hole, Goodson posted three birdies over her next 11 holes to move up the leaderboard.

Play is scheduled to resume Tuesday at 8:45 a.m., with the final round starting right after second round play is completed.
