Buccaneer senior leader finishes tied for third at Pinetree Women’s Collegiate

KENNESAW, Ga. (March 23, 2021) – For the second straight tournament and the seventh time of her career, ETSU’s Tereza Melecka (Belcovice, Czech Republic) posted a top-five finish as the Buccaneer senior leader finished tied for third at the Pinetree Women’s Collegiate, which concluded play on Tuesday.

Melecka, who finished tied for fourth at the River Landing Classic on March 9, posted a 54-hole score of 1-over-par 217 at the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga. The Buccaneer senior carded a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, while she tied for the most pars in the tournament with 43. In addition, Melecka generated the third-lowest total on par-4 scoring at even-par.

"The team is in such a great place, playing with great confidence," said head coach Stefanie Shelton. "This was another great performance on a tough course. I am very proud of all five ladies as these last events have been a total team effort. Tereza had a tremendous tournament again with a 3rd-place. She has been playing great golf."

Florida State’s Beatrice Wallin, the second-ranked golfer collegiately, earned medalist honors after finishing with a 4-under-par 212. Wallin, one of only two golfers in the 62-player field to score below par, tallied a 1-over 73 on Tuesday to hold off Chattanooga’s Beatriz Barrios. Barrios went low on Tuesday with a 68 and ended the tournament at 1-under-par 215.

The fifth-ranked Seminoles also captured the team title as they posted a score of 2-under-par 862.

For the third straight tournament, ETSU turned in a third-place showing as the Bucs totaled a score of 28-over-par 892. Kennesaw State finished second at 23-over-par 887, while ETSU placed ahead of Chattanooga (+34) and Mercer (+35), who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Blanca Porta finished tied for 20th (+9), while Warda Amira Rawof and Julia Goodson both tied for 25th (+10).

The Bucs make their final tune-up before next month’s Southern Conference Championship as ETSU plays at the Chattanooga Invitational next Monday.
