KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 20, 2021) – The ETSU women’s golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate on Monday from the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville.
The Bucs, who posted back-to-back wins to end the 2020-21 season, are tied for 10th in the 17-team field. The reigning Southern Conference champions sit at 17-over-par 585 (291-294) after the first two rounds.
Tournament host Tennessee and BYU are tied for first at 3-over-par 571. BYU was the lone team in round two to record a score below par as the Cougars carded a 1-under 283.
Individually, ETSU has three newcomers in its lineup this week.
Freshman Sera Hasegawa (Gifu, Japan), playing in the No. 1 slot, is tied with teammate and SoCon all-freshman team selection from a year ago, Grace Chin (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), at 2-over-par 144. Hasegawa was even-par 71 after opening-round play, while Chin jumped up 36 spots after firing a 2-under 69 in round two. Chin’s 69 was the lowest collegiate round of her young career.
BYU’s Kerstin Fotu registered consecutive rounds of 3-under 68 to sit atop the leaderboard at 6-under-par 136. Fotu holds a two-shot lead entering Tuesday’s final round, as Augusta’s Chloe Holder and Kent State’s Emily Price are tied for second at 4-under-par 138.
Tuesday’s final round is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. The Bucs are grouped with MTSU and Virginia Tech.
