ETSU takes four-shot lead into Sunday’s final round; Melecka tied for 36-hole lead

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (Oct. 9, 2021) – After a record-setting round in Friday’s opener, the ETSU women’s golf team came back to the field as the Buccaneers’ lead has been cut to four shots following Saturday’s second round play at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.

The Bucs, who shot a single-round program record 17-under-par in the opener, posted an 8-over 296 on Saturday, moving ETSU to 9-under-par 567 thru the first two rounds. The Blue and Gold are still atop the leaderboard and take a four-shot lead into Sunday’s final round from the University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch.

Cal Poly went low in round two as they fired a 4-under 284, climbing into second-place at 5-under-par 571. Denver sits in third at 3-under-par 573, while San Francisco is in fourth (+2) and Grand Canyon is fifth at 6-over-par 582.

Individually, senior Tereza Melecka (Belcovice, Czech Republic) replaced teammate Hollie Muse (Liverpool, England) for the lead. Melecka recorded a 2-under 70 in round two and is tied for the lead at 5-under-par 139. Toni Sottile from San Francisco is also tied for the lead, while the duo holds a two-stroke advantage over Muse and Denver’s Anna Krekling.

Freshman Sera Hasegawa (Gifu, Japan) is one of four golfers tied for fifth at 2-under-par 142.

The Bucs will look to capture their second straight team win as Sunday’s final round is scheduled to get underway with a shotgun start beginning at 11 a.m. ET. ETSU will be grouped with Cal Poly and Denver.
