Bucs End First Day of the 50th VyStar Gators Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Mar. 5, 2022) – The ETSU women’s golf team ended the first day of the 50th VyStar Gators Invitational in 12th place.

In today’s first round, the Bucs were hot. ETSU finished the first 18 holes tied for sixth place with a 289 (+9). ETSU was led by Hollie Muse (Liverpool, England). Muse tied for fourth in the player leaderboard ending the round with a 69 (-1). Muse had two birdies on holes three and 11, one bogey on hole 12, and was at par every other hole.

The Bucs had two more players in the top 30 of players in Sera Hasegawa (Gifu, Japan) who tied for 18th going two-over-par (72), and Alex Crafton (Lake Mary, Fla.) who tied for 25th going three-over-par (73). Hasegawa had two birdies on holes five and 11 and four total bogeys. Crafton had three birdies on holes three, five, and six. She also had two bogeys and two double-bogey.

Sophie Bert (Deurle, Belgium) finished the first round tied for 44th, going five-over-par (75), and Ellie Darnell (Kettering, Northamptonshire, England) finished tied for 57th going seven-over-par (77).

In today’s second round, the Bucs felt the pressure from the other ranked team in the tournament. Both No. 37 Michigan State and No. 2 Oklahoma state rocketed up five spots from where they finished in today’s first round. Denver, NC State, and Tennessee also moved up in the team leaderboard. This caused the Bucs to fall from tied fourth to 12th place to end today’s action.

ETSU enters tomorrow’s final round with a 589 (+29). Muse still leads the Bucs and finished today tied 15th three-over-par (143).

Oklahoma State leads the tournament after ending the day three-over-par (563), followed by Florida and Ole Miss. Both teams went 10-over-par (570).

Han-Hsuan Yu of Oklahoma State leads the player leaderboard with five-under-par (135). Yu is followed by; No. 34 Ashley Lau of Michigan with three-under-par (137), and Anna Zanusso of Denver with one-under-par (139).

ETSU will look to bounce back tomorrow on the final day of the 50th VyStar Gators Invitational. The Blue & Gold take the course with UCF and NC State at 8:30 am (ET).
