TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 17, 2023) – The ETSU women’s golf team finished first round play at the Florida State Match Up on Friday at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
The Bucs are trailing leader and tournament host Florida State by 24 strokes as ETSU finished with a score of 23-over-par 311. The Blue and Gold sit in eighth-place and are five shots ahead of Notre Dame and 16 strokes better of Southern Conference foe Mercer. No. 12 Florida State, the lone team to finish below par on Friday, finished at 1-under-par 287 in the opener.
Junior Amber Thornton (Canberra, Australia) led ETSU on Friday as she is tied for 27th at 4-over-par 76. Thornton began the day with five straight pars before completing the front nine at two-over. Thornton birdied the par-5, 470-yard No. 14 en route to finishing the back nine at two-over.
The duo of Alex Crafton (Lake Mary, Fla.) and Hollie Muse (Liverpool, England) are tied for 32nd, sitting at 5-over-par 77. Both Buccaneer golfers totaled four birdies on the day.
Lottie Woad of Florida State sits atop the individual leaderboard at 4-under-par 68. Woad is the ninth-ranked golfer via Golfstat, while she holds a two-shot advantage over No. 14 Jensen Castle of Kentucky and Tulane’s Daozeng Liu.
ETSU will be grouped with Coastal Carolina and Augusta in Saturday’s second round, which gets underway at 11 a.m. from No. 10.
