VERONA, Wis. (Sept. 17, 2023) – ETSU’s Sophie Bert (Deurle, Belgium) led the ETSU women’s golf team in the opener of the Badger Invitational, which got underway Sunday from University Ridge Golf Course.
Bert, who totaled four birdies, 11 pars and three bogeys in round one, sits tied for third at 1-under-par 71. Bert began the round with seven consecutive pars before finishing bogey-birdie on the front nine. Following the turn, Bert posted a bogey on the par-4, 378-yard No. 10, but then she played the next four holes at two-under. Bert closed with two pars, a bogey and birdie to finish with the 71.
Bert is three shots off the lead as University of Texas at San Antonio’s Camryn Carreon fired a 4-under 68 on Sunday to hold a two-shot lead over Wisconsin’s Kate Brody.
As a team, ETSU shot 20-over-par 308. Freshman Brianna Castaldi (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) – who played the back nine at two-under – is tied for 30th at 3-over-par 75.
Tournament host Wisconsin, along with Delaware, are tied for the team lead at 4-over-par 292. South Florida (+5) is in solo third, while Iowa, Colorado State, Augusta and UTSA are tied for fourth at 8-over 296.
