Johnson City, Tenn.-- The East Tennessee State women's soccer team returned to conference action against Chattanooga by dropping a hard-fought 1-0 decision at the Liberty Bell Soccer Complex.
After battling to a scoreless first-half, Chattanooga's Pam Malinowski capped the game winner off an assist from teammate Tiffany Gee with 48:40 elapsed. The shot rolled past Buccaneer goaltender Heather Sanden when Malinowski fired it towards the far post.
The Bucs had their best chance late in the second half as Jana Thomas redirected a pass off of a corner kick past Chattanoga goaltender Rawlslyn Ray but the ball was cleared by a Chattanooga defender.
With the win, the Mocs improve to 4-5 overall, 1-2 in the Southern Conference. The Bucs fall to 6-6 overall, 0-4 in the Southern Conference.
The Bucs will continue their Southern Conference homestand Tuesday as they host Western Carolina at 4 p.m. at the Liberty Bell Soccer Complex.
