Johnson City, Tenn.-- East Tennessee State suffered a 4-0 loss to Appalachian State in women's soccer action Thursday night the Liberty Bell Soccer Complex.
Appalachian State (4-5-1, 1-2) scored just 1:58 into the matchup when Keisha Prescott put in a header dished to her from the corner by Renee Stetkevich. The second goal came at 20:29 elapsed when Charlotte Grainger squeezed a long shot from center in over the head of the Buccaneer goalkeeper Lauren Fannon. The Mountaineers ended the first half with a goal off from Kristen Costello at the 36:13 mark.
In the second stanza, the Bucs (5-5, 0-3) tightened up their defense as freshman goalkeeper Heather Sanden entered the game and made four saves on five Appalachian shots. The final Mountaineer goal came on a blast from Kristen Mehl at the 88:52 mark.
Junior forward Kristen Redfern and sophomore forward Elizabeth Smith paced the Bucs with two shots a piece. Appalachian State was led by Grainger and Prescott who had three shots each to go along with their goals.
The Buccaneers return to action on Tuesday night as they host South Carolina State at Liberty Bell Soccer Complex at 5 p.m.
