Belmont Spoils East Tennessee State Women's Soccer Home Opener, 2-0

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 5, 2000)-- Belmont used two goals from senior Tara Miller to down East Tennessee State, 2-0, in women’s soccer action at the Liberty Bell Soccer Complex in Johnson City, Tenn.

The game-winning goal came at 21:29 as Miller blasted a low line drive from teammate Erica Rudy past ETSU freshman goalkeeper Heather Sanden. Miller added her second goal of the match at 72:20 to solidify the win.

ETSU (1-2) had its chances in the second half as Louisa Sawyer ripped a shot high and over the crossbar after the Belmont (1-3) net minder was tied up by ETSU attackers. Sawyer also had another chance halfway through the second half but was corralled by two Belmont defenders deep in the box.

Sanden had seven saves for the Bucs and Belmont’s Bonny Elder also recorded seven saves.

The Bucs return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 9 against Carson-Newman at The Liberty Bell Soccer Complex.
