GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman freshman Danielle Petro came off the bench to record a hat trick in her first career match as Furman opened the 2000 season with a 8-0 shutout of East Tennessee State.
Fellow freshman, Emily Turgeon, scored the Lady Paladins' first goal of the season and what turned out to the game-winner at the 16:18 mark off a double assist from Melissa Turner and Kaye Brownlee. Brownlee dished to a rushing Turner down the right corner and Turner crossed to Turgeon for the goal.
Senior Nicole Malseed scored six minutes later off another Brownlee assist. Melissa Turner then scored the first of her two goals at the 35:32 off a Lauren Killey free kick. Before the close of the first half, Petro connected on her first goal of the afternoon to make the halftime score 4-0.
Petro and Turner each scored their second goals of the afternoon early in the second half to extend the lead to 6-0. Danielle Petro then dribbled through several Bucs defenders as she connected on an unassisted goal at the 60:54 mark. Sophomore Andrea Brown scored the matchs final goal as she scored her first collegiate goal at the 83:59 mark.
