BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (October 12, 2006) - The ETSU women's soccer team battled the Gardner Webb Bulldogs to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Thursday night. The Bucs are now 3-7-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the A-Sun while the Bears move to 8-5-2 and 2-3-2.

During the first half, the Bucs and Bulldogs battled for the early lead with both teams firing off three shots. Scoring opened in the waning minutes of the period as Gardner Webb's Brittany Woods stole a pass and found the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage heading into half time.

ETSU and Gardner Webb continued to battle it out during the second half when freshman Jordan Monty (Dallas, Texas) headed the ball past the Bulldogs goalkeeper on a cross from Rachel Layer (Bel Air, Md.) during the 76th minute to even the score.

Monty, whose goal tonight marked her fourth straight scoring match, leads the Bucs with eight goals on the season.

In the remaining minutes of the second period the Bucs and Bulldogs continued to be locked in a stalemate and the game was sent to overtime.

In the first overtime, both ETSU and Gardner Webb got off one shot, however offensive attempts for both teams were thwarted as the match moved into a second overtime.

The deadlock would continue through the second overtime session to end the match in a 1-1 deadlock.

"Two teams that are very equal in terms of desire and technical ability both wanted to win the game tonight. It was a solid game to watch because we were in equal in almost every stat category, said ETSU head coach Heather Henson. "Both teams just played their hearts out. We had more possession in the overall game, but we really need to find a way to put some more of our opportunities away.'

The Buccaneers continue conference play on the road as they travel to take on the Campbell Camels on Saturday, October 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
