JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 26, 2017) -- Two former Southern Conference women’s soccer rivals continue their recent non-league series on Sunday, when ETSU hosts Davidson at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

HISTORY
The Bucs and Wildcats met every season between 1997 and 2004, when both squads were members of the SoCon. ETSU left for the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2005 before returning to the SoCon for the 2014 season. Davidson departed the SoCon for the Atlantic 10 Conference after 2013.

Davidson leads the all-time series 8-1, including a 4-3 win in their last meeting, September 1st, 2016, in Davidson. The Bucs’ lone win in the series came by 2-1 score on October 30, 2003, in Johnson City.

The series was on hiatus between 2005 and 2015.

2017 SO FAR

The Bucs (1-2-0) are back home after a 6-1 setback at Tennessee on Thursday night. ETSU took the lead on a goal from Pauline Vienne (Lausanne, Switzerland) in the 16th minute, but the Volunteers got the equalizer less than a minute later and forged ahead by scoring three goals in a span of less than seven minutes later in the 1st half.

Sunday is Davidson’s first road match of 2017 after three straight at home. The Wildcats (1-2-0) opened the season with a 4-0 win over Gardner-Webb on August 18th, then suffered a 4-0 loss to Wake Forest two days later. Davidson comes to Johnson City off a 2-1 loss to East Carolina on Friday night.

PRESEASON PREDICTIONS

The Bucs were picked to finish in a tie for 2nd, with Furman, in the SoCon’s pre-season coaches’ poll. Samford was the pre-season favorite. Three ETSU juniors -- F Eleonora Goldoni (Ferrara, Italy), M Isabel Hodgson (Adelaide, Australia) and D Emily McKerlie (Dumfries, Scotland) earned selection to the All-SoCon pre-season team.

Davidson was tabbed for 13th place in the 14-team Atlantic 10 in that league’s poll. Dayton, St. Louis and St. Joseph’s were the top three contenders.

FINDING THE BACK OF THE NET

Vienne is ETSU’s top scorer, with four goals and three assists (11 points). Goldoni leads the team in shots (13) and has scored two goals with one assist. Rachel Harbin (Arlington, Tenn.) has two goals this season.

Davidson is led by Allison Gray’s 2 goals and 1 assist. Mia Hodge has a goal and an assist. Cameron France and Michele Manceaux have scored one goal each, and Perry Zollicoffer has two assists.
