OXFORD, Miss. (Aug. 19, 2021) – The ETSU women’s soccer team suffered a road block to the start of their season on Thursday evening as inclement weather halted the season-opener in Mississippi.
As final preparation for the match was wrapping up, the two teams were ready to take the field for the opening kick before a flash of lightning halted all progress, forcing the teams off the pitch just moments before action got underway.
After nearly two hours of a heavy downpour and ensuing inclement weather, the decision was made by both teams to call off the game, the field being deemed too unsafe to play on.
The Bucs head back to Johnson City with a week to prepare for their next contest, hosting Presbyterian at 7 p.m. next Thursday in both their home and new season-opener.
