Bucs host Oklahoma on Sept. 15

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 12, 2022) – With the ETSU women’s soccer team set to report to campus in less than three weeks, ETSU head coach Jay Yelton released on Tuesday the Buccaneers’’ 2022 fall schedule.

The Bucs will host Oklahoma in one of their season home matches on Thursday, Sept. 15, while also making a road trip to the Music City to take on Vanderbilt (Sept. 2).

TWO TUNE UPS ON THE ROAD

ETSU will play two road friendlies as the Bucs head to UNC Wilmington on Aug. 10, followed by a trip to Cookeville to take on Tennessee Tech on Aug. 14. UNCW won the 2021 CAA regular season tile after going 7-2-0 in league play, while finishing with an overall record of 11-4-1. The Bucs and Tennessee Tech played to a scoreless draw last season in Johnson City as the Golden Eagles went 6-6-4 overall and 4-2-3 in OVC play.

SEASON OPENER

ETSU will get the regular season started on Thursday, Aug. 18, when the Bucs host Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m. at Summers-Taylor Stadium. The two teams will square off for the first time since playing to a 1-1 draw back in 2019 in Boiling Springs, N.C., while this marks the sixth all-time meeting between the two former ASUN foes.

LONG ROAD SWING

Following the season opener at home, the Blue and Gold take to the road for five straight matches, beginning on Aug. 21 at Liberty. The Flames won the ASUN title during the 2021 spring season and went 11-7-1 last fall and 6-2-1 at home. This will be third all-time meeting between ETSU and Liberty and first in 13 years. From there, the Bucs head to South Carolina for two matches, starting with Presbyterian on Aug. 24 and USC Upstate on Aug. 28. ETSU then makes the trip to the Music City to take on Vanderbilt on Sept. 2, while concluding the five-match road swing with the short trek over to Boone, N.C. on Sept. 8 to face Appalachian State.

HOME SWEET HOME

After a road trip that covers over 1,700 miles, ETSU returns to the friendly confines of Summers-Taylor Stadium for its longest homestand of the campaign. The Bucs open a four-match home stretch against UNC Asheville on Sept. 11. ETSU then brings Oklahoma to town for the first-ever meeting with the Sooners on Sept. 15 for its final tune up before opening conference play. The SoCon opener follows eight days later when ETSU takes on Furman (Sept. 23) and the homestand ends Sept. 25 against Wofford.

SOCON ROAD OPENER

The Bucs’ first SoCon road swing sends ETSU to Macon, Ga. on Sept. 30 with a match against Mercer, followed by a trip to Charleston, S.C. versus The Citadel to open the final month of regular season play on Oct. 2.

HOME FINALE

ETSU’s final home matches of the regular season will pin the Bucs against VMI on Oct. 7 and UNCG on Oct. 9.

ROUNDING OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH THREE STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD

The Blue and Gold round out regular season play with three straight road matches, starting Oct. 14 against reigning SoCon champion Samford. The Bucs then head back in state to take on rival Chattanooga on Oct. 16, while wrapping up the regular season at Western Carolina on Oct. 23.

SOCON TOURNAMENT PLAY

The Southern Conference Tournament gets underway with first round play on Oct. 28 when the No. 7 seed hosts the No. 8 seed. The quarterfinals and semifinals will then be hosted by the top two seeds Oct. 28 and Oct. 30, with the championship game slated for either Nov. 5-6 at the highest remaining seed.
