SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 19, 2023) – As ETSU students returned to campus for the spring semester earlier this week, the Southern Conference announced its Fall All-Academic Team on Thursday. ETSU led all schools by landing 57 student-athletes on the academic all-conference team.

Overall, 411 student-athletes from the SoCon earned spots on the team. Each of the SoCon’s 10 full member institutions had at least 25 honorees, representing the sports of men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball.

Women’s soccer had 14 Buccaneers land a spot on the team, football and men’s soccer each had 12, volleyball placed 10 and men’s and women’s cross country combined for nine on the list.

To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average at the conclusion of the fall semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams’ competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.

Thirty-one student athletes across the SoCon maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average, with five Buccaneers being part of the last group. Men’s cross country runners Mason Brandon (Greeneville, Tenn.) and Josh Krafsur (Fort Collins, Colo.), Josh Hancock (Torbay, England) of men’s soccer, Rachel Reid (Maryville, Tenn.) with women’s soccer and volleyball’s Taylor Roberts (Sneads, Fla.) all have 4.0 GPAs.

The 411 total selections and 31 perfect GPAs is the second-most selections in each category. The record of 422 total selections and 37 perfect GPAs were both set a year ago.
