Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State womens tennis team dropped their season opener 7-0 to Virginia Tech on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Paty Vega lost at the No. 1 position as she fell to Krissy Stubbs 7-5,6-3. Also returning for the Bucs was junior Mami Inoue. She surrendered her match against Antonella Pozzi 6-2,6-2 at No. 2 singles. Senior Cara Prupas fell at No. 4 to Michele Martaus, 7-5, 6-1.
The collegiate debut for three Buccaneers was not a successful one as Tatiana Arriaran, fell 6-2,6-4 to Bridget Bruner at No. 3. Jessica Irey dropped her first collegiate dual match to Inez Khelifi 6-1,6-1 in No. 3 singles. Aimee Villavicencio was also stopped in her first dual match by a 6-2,6-0 count to Kim Karli at No. 6.
ETSU was also swept in doubles competition
The Bucs look for their first win of the year at 5 p.m. on Friday, February 9 as they host UNC Asheville in Memorial Center.
