Johnson City, Tenn. (Apr. 13, 2002) � The East Tennessee State fell to in-state rival Chattanooga in their final regular-season match, 7-0, Saturday afternoon from the ETSU Tennis Center in Johnson City, Tenn. The Mocs (12-10, 7-2 Southern Conference) took both doubles matches to win the doubles point. Mocs Catherine Allen and Cynthia Oulevay defeated the ETSU (1-20, 0-9 SoCon) team of freshman Gemma Halim (Jakarta, Indonesia) and sophomore Jessica Irey (Clewiston, Fla.), 8-4, at the No. 1 seed. Chattanooga's Bethany Everett and Saskia van Velze earned an 8-1 victory over ETSU sophomores Tatiana Arriaran (Cochabamba, Colombia) and Aimee Villaviencio (Louisville, Ky.) in the two spot. At No. 3, the UTC team of Charlotte Goude and Laura Henry won by default. In singles play, Chattanooga's Goude knocked off ETSU's Irey 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1. UTC's Oulevay defeated Buccaneer Halim, 6-1, 6-2 in the two slot. ETSU's Arriaran fell to Chattanooga's Allen at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2. The Mocs' van Velze used straight sets of 6-0, 6-1 to defeat Arriaran of the Bucs at No. 4. Chattanooga's Everett defeated Buccaneer sophomore Heather Jones (Elizabethton, Tenn.), 6-2, 6-2 in the five slot. Chattanooga's Stephanie Miles won by default at No. 6 singles.
