Women's Tennis Team in Consolation Round at Virginia Tech

Blacksburg, Va.-- The East Tennessee State University women's tennis team began competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. this morning with mixed results. In Flight A, Jessica Irey lost to Katarzyna Finkowska of Appalachian State in two sets, 2-6 and 4-6. Irey will play Danielle Hock of Marshall in the second round of the Flight A consolation round due to a bye she recieved in the first round. Irey and Hock will play Saturday at 8:00 a.m. In Flight B, Aimee Villavicencio won the first round by default over Katherine Erikkson from Virginia Tech. Villavicencio was defeated by Campbell's Carmen Lender in two sets, 3-6, 1-6. The sophomore from Clewiston, Fla. recieved a bye in the first round of the Flight B consolation round and will face Renata Hlavova from Hampton Saturday at 8:00 a.m. Tatiana Arrarian withdrew from the tournament Friday morning. Arrarian was to team up with Irey in the doubles tournament but Villavicencio took her place. Irey and Villavicencio lost to Virginia Tech's Ashleigh Sarver and Alena Simmonds by the score of 7-9.
