ETSU Hires Steve Brooks as Women's Tennis Head Coach

Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State University athletic department announced today that Steve Brooks has been hired as the women's tennis head coach. Brooks comes to ETSU after serving last season as the men's tennis head coach at The Citadel where he led the Bulldogs to a 10-13 record. He brings more than 10 years of coaching experience to the position, including stints at Wofford College (1998-99), the University of Tennessee (1987-90), University of Arkansas (1986) and Carson-Newman, his alma mater, in 1985. Brooks has also coached on the WTA and ATP circuit. He has taught players that ranked as high as No. 20 in the world and several players competing in the U.S. Open, Lipton International, Canadian Open and Los Angeles Open. During the last five years, Brooks coached junior players that won four USTA national tournaments and more than 10 sectional and more than 30 state titles. Also a star on the court, Brooks is the winningest player in Carson-Newman men's tennis history. He earned undefeated conference records in both singles and doubles all four years of college. Brooks was ranked as high as No. 8 nationally in NAIA. A native of Jefferson City, Tenn., Brooks earned a bachelor of science in business from Carson-Newman in 1985. He then earned a master's degree in administration/recreation from the University of Tennessee in 1989.
