JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 13, 2007) - The ETSU women's tennis team continues their grueling schedule as they face the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday. The Bulldogs (11-0, 4-0 SEC) earned the top spot in the rankings after defeating Florida on Sunday. The Lady Bucs currently sit at 6-7 on the year after facing seven nationally ranked opponents.   

"I am excited to be able to play the No. 1 team in the NCAA's. I believe it is the first time an ETSU team has gone head to head with a No. 1 ranked team," said Lady Buc head coach Steve Brooks. "Our schedule is a lot tougher this year which has forced us to be on the road more than usual. The first half of the season we have played seven ranked teams and defeated on of them."

The Lady Bucs picked up their one victory over nationally ranked opponent with a 4-3 win over then No. 73 Michigan State. Other ranked opponents have included Kentucky, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, William and Mary, Pennsylvania, and Florida International.

This contest marks the first meeting between the two teams although Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus), Elena Volobueva (Barcelona, Spain), and Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) have all faced members of the Georgia squad during fall tournament play. All three of the girls dropped their matches but Batsula was able to take Monica Dancevic (ranked 50^th nationally) to three sets, eventually falling, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3.

"We are currently in first place in the A-Sun and I hope that the second half of the season is good to us so we can stay undefeated in conference play. We have to start playing more disciplined. I know the girls want to keep the winning tradition that has been built intact. The girls are also excited to be able to now spend some more time at home with their classes and do well with academics," said Brooks.
