Lady Bucs tennis drops Florida Atlantic, 5-2 in two-day match
Thursday, March 6, 2008

BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 6, 2008) - In a match that was played on two different days because of inclement weather the Lady Bucs tennis team defeated Florida Atlantic, 5-2 on Thursday at Patch Reef Park. The Lady Bucs improve to 6-5 on the season while the Owls fall to 0-7.

In singles action on Wednesday, No. 93 Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) cruised past Natalia Totevska, 6-0, 6-2 in the top position while Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) defeated Danielle Simone, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 4 slot.

As the match was postponed due to rain on Wednesday the action continued Thursday morning where Tara Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) dropped Claudia Kecht, 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 2 position, while Elena Volobueva (Barcelona, Spain) defeated Elodie Wendling in the third position, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 to clinch the match.

Competing in the No. 5 position Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) rallied from a set down to drop Pia Terol, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(4). In the sixth slot Whitney Trotter fell to Virginia Augustin, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Due to the inclement weather and travel schedules the doubles were not contested as ETSU defaulted to Florida Atlantic.

"It was really good that we got the win today. It's a tough way to have to play a match when you are coming into it already up it takes a while to get going again," said head coach Steve Brooks. "I'm really proud of the girls they played very well in this tough situation."

The Lady Bucs will travel back to Tennessee as they take on Belmont on March 7. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. Follow all ETSU women's tennis action at www.ETSUBucs.com.
