LEXINGTON, Ky. (February 9, 2008) - The ETSU women's tennis team fell to No. 28 Kentucky, 6-1 Saturday, at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington. The Lady Bucs fall to 1-3 on the year while the Wildcats improve to 6-1.

In doubles the Wildcats claimed the point as the No. 20 duo of Carolina Escamilla and Christine Johnston defeated Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) and Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine), 8-4 in the top position, while Tara Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Tara Sheets (Gate City, Va.) fell to Megan Broderick and Sarah Woestmann, 8-3 in the second position. The No. 3 position was not contested.

Competing in the No. 1 singles position Yevgeniya Stupak fell to Christine Johnston, 6-3, 6-2 while Tara Byrne fell in a three-set match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 to Alaina Trgovich in the No. 2 slot. In the third slot, Olya Batsula fell to Carolina Escamilla, 6-2, 6-2 and Tara Sheets fell to Megan Broderick, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 position. In the fifth position No. 69 Sarah Woestmann defeated Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania), 6-1, 6-1. ETSU earned their lone point when the No. 6 match with Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) was scheduled but not contested.

"This was our third match in two days and we were really tired. I want to give all the credit to Kentucky, they are a good team and they always seem to step it up a notch when we play them," said head coach Steve Brooks. "We had some shots that we make every day but when you get down a couple of games you just start trying too hard and we wound up missing those shots. We just didn't get it done today."

The Lady Bucs will be back in action on February 16 as they travel to the Music City to take on No. 10 Vanderbilt. The match is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. Follow all ETSU women's tennis action at www.ETSUBucs.com.
