COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct. 28, 2007) - The ETSU women's tennis team concluded play at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by the University of South Carolina on Sunday. The doubles teams of Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine), Elena Volobueva (Barcelona, Spain) and Whitney Trotter (Guadalajara, Mexico), Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) each finished third in their respective flights.
Competing in the A-1 doubles bracket Stupak and Volobueva cruised past Laurel Bolesky and Amy Pazahanick of Coastal Carolina, 8-3 to take third place in the flight. In the C-1 doubles flight Trotter and Voinea joined forces to take down Mary Beth Gunn and Martie Wahl of UT-Martin, 8-5 for a third place finish.

In the B-1 singles draw Byrne breezed by Armstrong Atlantic's Gabriella Kovacs in semifinal action, 6-2, 6-1 before falling to Lindsey Ballard of Chattanooga in a hard fought three-set match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 for the title.
In the B-3 consolation flight Volobueva defeated Georgia Southern's Ali Beavers, 7-5, 6-7(5), (10-6) while in the B-4 consolation bracket Voinea fell to Hayley Baird of Wofford, 6-1, 6-3.
