Friday, October 19, 2007

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Oct. 19, 2007) - The Lady Bucs tennis team continued action at the ITA Southeast Regional as Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) advanced to the Round of 16 in the Main Draw on Friday.

Stupak earned a first round bye and in the Round of 32 she defeated Alexandra Luc of Clemson, 6-4, 6-4. She will square off against No. 102 Elizabeth Plotkin of Duke in the Round of 16.

Competing in doubles Stupak and Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) rolled by  Lindsey Jones and Jo-Ann VanAerde of Louisville in the Round of 32, 8-5. The ninth-seeded duo will face the No. 4 seed team Sophie Grabinski and Sanaz Marand of North Carolina.

"We didn't' play our best today but they played good enough to win. It wasn't all bad because you don't want to play your best in the first round and save it for later rounds," said head coach Steve Brooks.

Action will continue Saturday with two rounds of singles and one round of doubles. For all ETSU women's tennis action visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
