Thursday, September 6, 2007

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 6, 2007) - With several invitation-only fall tournaments and three matches against nationally ranked teams, the Lady Bucs tennis team will take on a demanding schedule for the 2007-08 season.

The Lady Bucs will have a busy fall tournament schedule as they will be competing in six tournaments. They will begin fall tournament action on the road this weekend as they travel to the UNC-Wilmington Country Club of Landfall Collegiate Tennis Invitational Sept. 7-9. The following weekend the Lady Bucs will travel to Knoxville as they participate in the St. Mary's Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee, Sept. 14-16. ETSU will then host their annual Fall Invitational Sept. 22-23. The Lady Bucs will close out the month of September with some members of the squad traveling to Los Angeles to qualify for the ITA All-American Championship, Sept. 28-30.

ETSU will also be participating in tournaments at Air Force, Virginia Tech, and South Carolina as well as the ITA Southeast Regional at North Carolina throughout the fall season.

The Lady Bucs will open the spring season on the road as they take on Georgia, who finished No. 4 last season, on Jan. 25. The match will be the first of a five match road tour which will feature matches against Kentucky and Vanderbilt. ETSU will open their home schedule February 22-24 as they host triangular matches with Charlotte and Michigan State.

"We've added a few new tournaments this year and are working on getting a couple of players qualified for the ITA All-American Championship which is the first national championship of the season. Our goal is to get in position to return to the NCAAs and we will face three teams that finished in the ITA Top 50 last season," said head coach Steve Brooks. "We also have more home matches this year and are excited to be hosting Michigan State."

After winning a share of the 2007 Atlantic Sun regular season title, the Lady Bucs look to continue their winning ways as they open their A-Sun schedule at home against Kennesaw State on February 29. The Lady Bucs will also face Mercer (March 1), Stetson (March15), Florida Gulf Coast (March 21), Campbell (April 4), South Carolina Upstate (April 9) at home before closing out the regular season against former Southern Conference rival UNC Greensboro.

The Lady Bucs will also be looking to earn their second conference championship as ETSU takes on hosting duties for the Atlantic Sun Championships April 17-20.
