Lady Bucs look to keep rolling at Campbell Friday

Stupak and Byrne look to move up the all-time ETSU wins list at Campbell

 

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 19, 2009) - After starting the Atlantic Sun Conference season unbeaten the ETSU women's tennis team will put its 3-0 league record on the line Friday as the Lady Bucs take on Campbell with a 1:30 p.m., contest at the Nisbet Tennis Center in Buies Creek, N.C.

 

ETSU (5-4, 3-0 A-Sun) enters the contest after picking up its third road win of the season at Mercer last Friday. In the Lady Bucs 6-1 win against the Bears, senior Tara Byrne (Johnson City) continued to move up the all-time career wins list after defeating Anna Wieslander in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.The Tri-Cities native now sits in second-place with 94 career victories. Also individually, junior Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) moved up one spot in the national ITA rankings this week to No. 109, after pushing her singles winning streak to 17 straight matches.

 

Campbell (9-5, 1-1 A-Sun) comes into the match after picking up back-to-back wins in its doubleheader against Lafayette and Mt. Olive, Wednesday. Despite the Camels looking strong lately Campbell looks to improve off its first two A-Sun contests in which CU split with Mercer and Kennesaw State.

 

Individually, Borislava Nikolova leads the way for the Camels after starting the spring with a 10-4 singles record, including a 2-0 mark in A-Sun action.
