Stupak starts season unbeaten with two wins

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 30, 2009) - With icy cold conditions outside the ETSU women's tennis team couldn't overcome the red-hot play of No. 23-ranked Kentucky Friday morning, falling to the Wildcats, 6-1 at the Hillary J. Boone Tennis Center in Lexington, Ky.

After falling to EKU Thursday the Bucs now sit at 0-2 in the young season, while Kentucky improved 2-0.

The Wildcats opened play by taking two out of the three doubles matches. ETSU's one victory came as the junior Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) and freshman Paula Jamie (Madrid, Spain) defeated the Kentucky duo of Whitney Spencer and Lauren Hines, 8-5. However with Wildcats won the remaining matches giving them the doubles point and an early, 1-0 lead.

As singles play opened Stupak came out firing dropping Megan Broderick in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5 (8-6) tying the match at 1-1. However, just as it looked like the Bucs were back in the match Kentucky railed off five straight singles contests to take the 6-1 victory.

ETSU will now take two weeks off before returning to action at Charleston Southern February 20.
