DURHAM, N.C. (November  9, 2008) - Going unbeaten in any fall tennis tournament is hard to do, but that's exactly what ETSU women's tennis senior Tara Byrne (Johnson City) and junior Yegenyia Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) did this weekend, as the Bucs closed out their fall season at the Duke/UNC Kitty Harrison Invitational, in Durham, N.C.

Byrne, who continued to move up the all-time career wins list, Sunday closed out the three-day event by defeating Sasha Krupina of Georiga Tech, 6-2, 3-6, (6). The Tri-Cities native now heads into the spring season needing only a couple of more wins to become the career wins leader in ETSU women's tennis history. Stupak also closed out the tournament unbeaten as she defeated Viet Ha Ngo of Georgia Tech, 6-3, 6-1.

Also in singles action was freshman Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) who dropped her final match to Lynn Blau of the Yellow Jackets, 6-3, 6-1, while sophomore Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) lost to Jessica Keenar of Marshall, 6-7, 6-1 (4).  Freshman Paula Jamie (Madrid, Spain) rounded out the Bucs scores by rallying for a 6-3, 2-6 (11) tiebreaking win against Thaddea Lock of Marshall.

In doubles action the ETSU duo of Byrne and Kedzo lost to Davis and Krupina of Georgia Tech, 8-3, however the Buccaneer team of Stupak and Jamie looked strong by dropping Ngo and Blau of the Yellow Jackets, 9-7.

"Overall, it was a great weekend for Tara and Stupak," said head coach Steve Brooks. "Both girls played really well. Yegenyia was the all-around singles champion based on her seeding. But again both girls won all four matches and that was big closing out the fall. The girls as a whole played really great. They beat ranked teams from No.3 Georgia Tech and some other quality opponents in Marshall, Furman and the College of Charleston."
