Women's tennis looks to have another strong showing at Virginia Tech

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (October 30, 2008) - After another strong showing at the ITA Regional Championships last weekend, the ETSU women's tennis team looks to continue to build on its success as they swing into action Thursday at the Hokie Fall Invitational, in Blacksburg, Va.

 

A total of 82 players, representing 13 teams will make up a strong field at the three-day event.

 

Friday's action will begin with two rounds of doubles followed by a single round of singles. Saturday's action opens with one round of doubles and two rounds of singles. Finals in all but the Flight C doubles will take place on Sunday and the Flight C doubles are set to conclude on Saturday.

 

Leading the way for ETSU is junior Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) who will be matched up against Giasla Fernandez of Appalachian State. Also representing the Bucs in Flight A singles bracket is senior Tara Byrne (Johnson City), who drew Radford's Mia Drobnjak.

 

In the Flight B singles bracket sophomore Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania), will take on Shaina Singh of Chattanooga.

 

Senior Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) and freshman Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) will represent the Bucs in Flight C, as Moskaliova will take on Virginia's Massie Yahner, while Kedzo faces Ashley Lawrence of Wofford.

 

Rounding out the ETSU lineup is junior Whitney Trotter (Guadalajara, Mexico), who will take on Radford's Antoinette Iosue, while the Bucs Jessica Ratliff (Bristol), faces off against Abbey Walker of Virginia Tech.
