ETSU earns two singles victories over Kentucky
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. (October 28, 2011) – Senior Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) and freshman Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) led the ETSU women’s tennis team with two singles victories over Kentucky, as the Bucs completed day one of the College of Charleston’s Frightful Halloween Tennis Challenge.
“Most of the team really competed hard today,” said ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant. “Unfortunately, a few let some leads slip and allowed our opponents steal some victories.
“Jess [Brumit] had her best win of the year. She hung in the match both physically and mentally and really deserved this victory today.”
The Bucs began day one of the Halloween Challenge with singles play against Kentucky, coming away with victories by both Jaime and Brumit. Jaime dropped the first set before rallying to take the next two in a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win. Brumit won her first, dropped the second and held on through a close third for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 victory.
The rest of the team did not fare the same in singles, all falling in straight sets to their Wildcat opponent.
ETSU later took on the College of Charleston in doubles play, but fell short in all three matches.
Play resumes tomorrow as ETSU takes on Winthrop in singles and Kentucky in doubles.
