Madrid native earns third career accolade
MACON, Ga. (March 28, 2012) – Leading the ETSU women’s tennis team to a 2-0 weekend with victories over Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast, senior Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Jaime went 2-0 at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles on her way to earning the Buccaneers’ first weekly women’s tennis honor of the season. The recognition is also the third of Jaime’s career, having been honored the week of March 25, 2009 and April 6, 2011.
On Friday against Stetson, Jaime continued her dominant doubles play with fellow senior Marine Wieliczko (Rouen, France) by defeating Sara Lazarevic and Clarke Tatje 8-2 in the No. 1 match. At the No. 1 position in singles, Jaime handled Lazarevic 6-2, 6-3 to help ETSU to a 6-1 victory.
On Saturday against FGCU, Jaime led the Bucs to their first 7-0 sweep of the season. Teaming with Wieliczko at No. 1 doubles, Jaime earned an 8-1 victory over Morgan Bechtel and Marina Diez. In singles action, the Madrid native earned her 19th win of the year by taking down Sarah Means 6-4, 6-0.
Jaime currently holds a 19-9 overall singles record this season, going 7-6 in dual matches and 3-1 in A-Sun action. She has also built her career singles wins total to 84, just two shy of Olya Batsula for fifth place all-time at ETSU.
