JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 5, 2012) – The ETSU women’s tennis team continues Atlantic Sun play as it looks for its fifth-consecutive victory when it welcomes Mercer and Kennesaw State to the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.

ETSU (8-7, 5-1 A-Sun) meets Mercer (2-9, 0-5 A-Sun) on Friday at 2:30 p.m., before hosting Kennesaw State (11-6, 3-2 A-Sun) on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Buccaneers head into the weekend as winners of their last four matches, including three, 7-0, shutouts in a row. ETSU started the winning streak on March 23 with a, 6-1, defeat of Stetson, and have since swept Florida Gulf Coast, Lipscomb and Belmont.

Against Belmont, senior Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) improved her team-leading singles record to 21-9, earning her 86th all-time victory to tie former ETSU standout Olya Batsula for fifth place in the career record books. Jaime’s, 6-0, 6-1, straight set victory was one of six which ETSU picked up on the day, as Giulia Andreazza (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil), Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venzuela), Kelsey Williams (Sunbury, Australia), Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Diana Navrostska (Lviv, Ukraine) all handled their wins without dropping a set.

Jaime, Andreazza, Navrostska and Brumit each share the team lead for consecutive victories, entering the weekend as winners of their last four matches.

Mercer is looking for its first win since March 1, when it defeated Fort Valley State, 6-1. Since then, the Bears have lost six in a row against Chattanooga, FGCU, Stetson, Belmont, Lipscomb and Kennesaw State. Mercer was also scheduled to face Georgia State during that stretch, but the match was cancelled.

Kennesaw State heads into weekend play on a five-match winning streak, including the, 7-0, sweep of Mercer last Saturday. Each of the Owls’ victories during the streak came within a week span, starting with a, 6-1, defeat of Belmont on March 24.

Viginie Stein leads KSU in the singles category, holding a 14-3 record through dual play. Of Stein’s 17 matches, she holds a 12-3 record at the No. 3 and a 2-0 mark at the No. 2. Alexandra Apostu and Vera Shkundina are right on Stein’s heels, with Apostu at 13-2 and Shkundina at 13-4.

KSU will play USC Upstate on Friday before heading to Johnson City, Tenn., to meet with the Bucs on Saturday.

Last year, the Bucs faced both Kennesaw State and Mercer in Georgia, coming away with a, 5-2, win against the Owls and a, 6-1, victory over the Bears.
