LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (Nov. 8, 2013) - Ana Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) and Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) wrapped up Day 1 of the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic Friday, with the pair getting mixed results in doubles play, as well as individual play.

Gerbasi and Choo, who were ranked No. 51 in the ITA's preseason doulbes rankings, teamed up to take on Notre Dame's Molly O'Koniewski and Julie Sabacinski; however, ETSU's doubles team fell, 6-2, 7-5.

In singles play, Choo advanced to the second round, beating Oklahoma's Morgan McCray, 6-2, 7-5, in the opening round. Choo suffered a narrow setback to Florida's Kourtney Keegan, 6-4, 6-4.

"Choo was not outplayed by Kourtney [Keegan]," ETSU head coach Travis Sandlant said. "Keegan was just mentally stronger on the big points."

Gerbasi suffered a pair of losses in singles play, falling to Vanderbilt's Sydney Campbell, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in the first round, and losing to Alyssa Hibberd of Memphis in the back draw, 6-4, 6-2.

"It was a tough day," Sandlant said. "Our performance was not there today in doubles. We are definitely going to be working hard on our doubles teams.

We rely on that point during the season," Sandlant said. "We are not where we should be right now."

Gerbasi and Choo will be back in action tomorrow during the tournament's second day of competition.

"Tomorrow will be another tough day," Sandlant said. "It will be interesting to see how we bounce back."
