BRISTOL, Tenn. (Jan. 26, 2014) - Overcoming playing in an unfamiliar venue, the ETSU women’s tennis team picked up a convincing, 4-1 win over rival Appalachian State Sunday at the Bristol Racquet and Fitness Club.
The Buccaneers (1-1) began the day taking the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots, before winning three singles points to clinch the match.
Senior Salma Dahbi put the finishing touches on ETSU’s win, capturing a hard-fought victory over Appalachian State’s Brianna Armellino in come-from-behind fashion.
After losing the first set, 6-4, the Marrakech, Morocco, native managed to win the second and third sets, 6-4, 7-5, respectively.
“Salma [Dahbi] had a great-come-from behind win and Giulia [Andreazza] come back to have a chance before Salma clinched,” ETSU head coach Travis Sandlant said.
Due to inclement weather, Sunday’s match was played away from ETSU’s campus at the Bristol Racquet and Fitness Club.
“It was some tough conditions inside today,” Sandlant said. “But, as a whole, we stroked the ball solidly.”
ETSU will continue non-conference play Thursday Jan. 30 when it visits Furman.
