All four ETSU players advance to respective singles flight finals

WILMINGTON, N.C. (Oct. 4, 2014) - Junior Ana Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) and freshman Jayde Viccars (Glen Waverely, Australia) teamed up to win the B Doubles flight title Saturday at the UNC Wilmington Fall Invite in Wilmington, N.C.

Both Gerbasi and Viccars also advanced to the final round of their respective singles flights. Teammates Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and Ionna Markesini (Athens, Greece) also advanced to their respective singles flight finals.

In doubles action, Gerbasi and Viccars coasted to a pair of victories Saturday, picking up an 8-2 win in the semifinal round before defeating Alix Theodossiou and Christian Kaupper of host UNC Wilmington in the final, 8-3.

Viccars capped her successful Day Two of the tournament by pulling off an impressive, come-from-behind victory in the semifinals of the B2 Singles flight. After falling to Coastal Carolina's Mila Majtan, 6-0, in the first set of semifinal play, Viccars responded by winning the next two sets, 6-4, 7-5.

"Jayde [Viccars] pulled out a gutsy singles win today," ETSU coach Travis Sandlant said. "And in doubles, she came away with her first title as a Buc. It is great to see her have such quick success."

Meanwhile, Choo and Markesini cruised to singles semifinal wins, with Choo defeating Annika Sillanpaa of UNCW, 6-1, 6-3, and Markesini knocking off Campbell's Georgina Segarra, 6-2, 6-2.

The final day of competition at the UNCW Fall Invite will take place Sunday, Oct. 5.
