SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Feb. 10, 2015) – ETSU junior Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played through Feb. 8. Choo is 4-0 in singles play and is 3-0 in doubles competition as the Buccaneers have opened the season 5-0 in dual matches this spring.
Choo is 3-0 at the No. 1 singles position this spring and earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Austin Peay’s Hannah Tatlock at No. 2 singles. Choo has won all four of her singles matches in straight sets.
She began the season with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Appalachian State’s Clare Cox before posting a 6-2, 6-3 win over Radford’s Natalie Sayer. The Kuching, Malaysia’s third win at the top singles spot was a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Belmont’s Lindsey Whitehead.
Competing at No. 1 doubles with Reginka Nychytailova, ETSU’s top pair claimed a 6-3 win over Radofrd’s Gemma Walls and Taylor Newman. Choo was then paired with Ana Gerbasi for her next two doubles matches. The pair of Choo and Gerbasi crused to a 6-1 victory over Belmont’s Whitehead and Kendall Warren before posting a 6-2 win over Austin Peay’s Tatlock and Ornella Di Salvo.
ETSU returns to the courts Saturday when the Buccaneers face No. 74 Mississippi State.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Furman’s Alex Moreno-Kaste, Samford’s Jessica Northcutt, Chattanooga’s Kelsey Coots and Western Carolina’s Elizabeth Ansari.
