ROCK HILL, S.C. (March 4, 2015) - The ETSU women's tennis team suffered just its second loss of the season Wednesday, falling narrowly at Winthrop in a tightly-contested non-conference match, 4-3.

The Eagles (4-6), who held a national ranking through the first five weeks of the season, earned the doubles point over ETSU by notching wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The two teams went on to split the singles points, with each squad winning three spots.

"Winthrop fought harder than us—it's as simple as that," ETSU coach Travis Sandlant said. "We need to still learn to close matches. We will continue to work on this area and hopefully be right for conference."

At No. 1 Doubles, ETSU's Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and Ana Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) suffered their first loss of the season, dropping to 4-1 on the season.

Earning singles victories for ETSU were Choo, Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Jayde Viccars (Glen Waverely, Australia).

With her win at No. 5 Singles, Brumit remained unbeaten on the season, improving her record to 6-0.

ETSU will close out its non-conference slate next week as the Bucs visit Charleston, S.C., to take on Charleston Southern Tuesday, March 10, and College of Charleston Wednesday, March 11. The Buccaneers (6-2) will open Southern Conference play Friday, March 20 at Wofford.
