SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 20, 2015) — The ETSU women's tennis team notched a victory in its Southern Conference opener Friday, defeating the Wofford Terriers, 7-0, in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Buccaneers (8-3) started the day by obtaining the doubles point to take an early 1-0 advantage.
Juniors Ana Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) and Regina Nychytailova (Maripol, Ukraine) earned a win at No. 2 Doubles, 8-2. ETSU's Aussie duo of freshmen Jayde Viccars (Glen Waverely, Australia) and Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) picked up an 8-3 win at court No. 3. Meanwhile the ranked pair of Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) took care of business on court No. 1, 8-3.
All six Bucs earned straight-set wins in singles play, including senior Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) who notched a 6-2, 6-0 win on court No. 6.
Choo extended her singles win streak to six matches with a victory at No. 1 Singles, improving her spring record to a team-best 10-1 mark.
The Bucs will now head to Cullowhee, N.C., to take on SoCon opponent Western Carolina Saturday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m.
