ETSU set for rematch vs. Chattanooga; Saturday's semifinal to begin at 10:00 a.m.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 24, 2015) - The third-seeded ETSU women's tennis team advanced to the semifinal round of the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Championship by defeating No. 6 Wofford, 4-1, Friday in Greenville, S.C.

The Buccaneers (14-5) maintained a 2-0 match advantage after earning the doubles point and a victory at No. 5 Singles; however, Wofford did not go down without a fight, cutting its deficit to 2-1 with a win at No. 6 Singles.

Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) managed to extend the Bucs' lead to 3-1 with a straight-set win at No. 4 Singles.

First Team all-conference selection Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) then sealed ETSU's 4-1 win with a hard-fought, three-set victory at the top singles spot, defeating Catherine Martin, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

The two remaining matches were each in the third set when ETSU clinched the match.

"Wofford threw everything at us today," ETSU coach Travis Sandlant said. "The girls responded and did not panic, which was good."

Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) was victorious at No. 5 Singles, defeating Mareli Sanchez, 6-0, 6-2.

Choo and Ana Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) teamed up to win at No. 1 Doubles, while Regina Nychytailova (Maripol, Ukraine) and Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) earned a win at the No. 2 position.

With the victory, ETSU extended its win streak to four matches. The Bucs have won eight of their last 10 matches.

ETSU will now go toe-to-toe with No. 2 Chattanooga, one of only two teams to best the Bucs in conference competition this season, in the tournament semifinals Saturday, April 25.

Thursday, April 2, Chattanooga came from behind to edge ETSU, 4-3, in Johnson City.

Saturday's semifinal match is set to begin at 10:00 a.m., in Greenville on the campus of Furman University.
